necessary mess is a blog about teaching and pedagogy, founded on the idea that to create lasting and meaningful learning experiences, you have to be willing to get messy – conceptually, and sometimes literally. We explore what this means for content areas, classroom management, pedagogy, and both planned and emergent curriculum.

To see mess as necessary is to demonstrate trust in and active engagement with process, as undertaken by a child, teacher, family, or community. For a full statement of purpose, see our inaugural post.
